The trench coat has been central to the Burberry story since its inception.
The Trench Coat
Designed to protect against all weather conditions, the trench is made from gabardine – an innovative fabric that transformed rainwear. Invented by our founder in 1879, its open and reticular weave allows the body to breathe whilst also repelling the elements, safeguarding against the unpredictable British weather.
Our Heritage Trench Coats are made in our Yorkshire factory and feature classic details such as the belt, epaulettes and iconic Burberry Check lining. Designed in a variety of cuts, styles include the signature Kensington and relaxed Waterloo.
Over the years, the Burberry trench coat has undergone various interpretations. Daniel Lee’s exploration of archival gabardines has led to a new development of our signature fabric. Made in the Burberry Mill in Keighley, Yorkshire, the result is a ‘structured gabardine’ with a textured twill. Innovation of the trench continues to stay true to its ethos.
